JCIE and FGFJ hosted Japan’s former Minister of Health, Labour & Welfare and representative of the Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (GLG on AMR), Mr. Yasuhisa Shiozaki, on the occasion of his participation in the 79th UN General Assembly’s High-Level Meeting on AMR on September 26. On the sidelines of the high-level meeting, FGFJ arranged a meeting between Mr. Shiozaki and the Global Fund’s Executive Director Peter Sands, and Head of Donor Relations Dianne Stewart.
The meeting was an opportunity for Mr. Shiozaki and Mr. Sands to discuss the ongoing work being carried out by the Global Fund that contributes to AMR, including efforts to address multidrug-resistant tuberculosis and its contributions to health systems including infection protection and control (IPC), waste management, and disease surveillance. They also exchanged views on the role of existing global health institutions in tackling AMR, including how the Global Fund could invest more in AMR response as part of their work to strengthen health systems.
