From April 21 to 25, 2008, the FGFJ and the Global Fund led a delegation of five Japanese journalists from major national newspapers to Cambodia and Vietnam. The journalists, who were covering health topics in the lead up to the G8 Summit in Toyako, Hokkaido, visited a broad range of sites so that they could better understand the public health problems these countries face and the efforts on the ground to improve the situation. They were able to witness projects providing treatment and prevention services for people affected by HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, as well as those providing immunizations and mother and child healthcare.
