On March 25, the Japanese government made a US$289 million contribution to the Global Fund, the first tranche of a pledge of US$800 million announced in December 2013 at the 4th Global Fund Replenishment Launch in Washington DC. This contribution—the second largest to date from Japan—brought Japan’s cumulative contributions since 2002 to US$2.16 billion.
