December 12, 2014, was the first ever Universal Health Coverage Day, marking the two-year anniversary of a unanimous United Nations resolution endorsing universal health coverage (UHC). JCIE is proud to be a part of the global coalition of more than 500 organizations that launched this day, which is intended to be a call to action toward realizing a world where every person—regardless of age, color, race, creed, gender, class, income, location, or sexual orientation—can access healthcare without financial hardship.

Why #HealthForAll?
…because nobody should go bankrupt when they get sick
…because universal health coverage is attainable
…because universal health coverage can stop the world’s biggest killers
…because health transforms communities, economies, and nations
…because health is a right, not a privilege
JCIE Work on UHC
In recent years, JCIE’s work on global health and human security has included a focus on UHC—an area in which Japan has a 50-year track record—and its importance for international development and security. Recognizing the importance of UHC to the evolving global health agenda, FGFJ launched a major research project in 2014 to identify ways in which the Global Fund, as a disease-specific financing mechanism, is also contributing to the expansion of UHC with important impacts beyond AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.
