It has also played a pioneering role in scientific research and development initiatives that are indispensable to the fight against the three diseases, and promoting gender equality and human rights.

About the replenishment meetings: Once every three years, the Global Fund calculates the amount of money necessary to fund measures against infectious diseases and calls on the international community to raise the money. This process is called “replenishment” and consists of “fundraising meetings” where each country pledges funding and two “fundraising preparation meetings” that take place several months to a year ahead of time. The Sixth Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund is expected to raise funds for the period from 2020 through 2022. It is the first time that France will host a Global Fund replenishment conference.
