M·A·C AIDS Fund contributes to the FGFJ

On May 23-24, 2008, more than 150, NGO, business, and philanthropic leaders from around the world met in Tokyo for a major FGFJ conference to explore how the world can respond more effectively to the spread of communicable diseases in developing countries.
On May 23, 2008, Prime Minister Fukuda announced Japan’s new financial commitment of US$560 million to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund).

From April 21 to 25, 2008, the FGFJ and the Global Fund led a delegation of five Japanese journalists from major national newspapers to Cambodia and Vietnam.
On February 29, 2008, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced Japan’s contribution of US$184 million to the Global Fund.

Dr. Akudo Anyanwu Ikemba visited Japan on November 5–10, 2007, to strengthen the ties between the FGFJ and Friends of the Global Fund Africa in the fight against communicable diseases.
The FGFJ convened a roundtable in Tokyo on August 6, 2007, with Tachi Yamada, president of the Bill & Melinda Gate’s Foundation’s Global Health Program addressing ways the public and private sector can cooperate to address challenges in global health.

The FGFJ held a seminar in Tokyo on July 26, 2007, on the topic From Heiligendamm to Toyako—The Global Fund on the G8 Agenda, during which Dr. Michel Kazatchkine, executive director of the Global Fund, and Dr. Christoph Benn, the Global Fund’s director of external relations, offered the audience an overview of the Global Fund’s work and its results.
On March 2, 2007, Japan announced that it would hike its annual contribution to the Global Fund to US$186 million.

The FGFJ, in cooperation with DATA (Debt AIDS Trade Africa) and Hottokenai, Sekai no Mazushisa, arranged a number of meetings and events for Bono in Tokyo between November 28 and December 1, 2006.
The FGFJ arranged for All Nippon Airways (ANA), to air a video on the Global Fund on all of its domestic flights for three months, from September to December 2006.
More than 100 government, business, NGO, and philanthropic leaders from around the world gathered in Beijing, China, for a major conference on July 10-11, 2006, which was jointly organized by the Friends of the Global Fund, Japan (FGFJ), the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
